Pete Wagner, Founder

Pete studied mechanical engineering at the University of California, San Diego, and put his expertise to work in the golf industry, designing high performance shafts for Carbite Golf and then Penley Golf. He designed carbon fiber shafts for Lanny Watkins, John Daly, Jim Furyk and other pros. In the course of this work he wrote software to analyze, design and manufacture cutting-edge, high-tech gear, and this suite of tools culminated in the development of a computerized custom fitting system for golf clubs.

For seven winters, Pete skied 100 days each winter in Telluride — and naturally began adapting his golf software to the purpose of analyzing the mechanics and design of skis. It became clear to him that skis are an even more complex and interesting problem than golf clubs, because the terrain, environment, and skier characteristics and expectations cover a much broader range of variation. Several years of research and development ensued. In 2006, Pete earned an MBA at the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado in Boulder, and immediately launched Wagner Custom.

Marty Bonacci, VP Development

Marty began snowboarding in 1986 on the stern and rockbound ice of New England, and except for a brief flirtation with skiing in 1993, has devoted himself to boards and boarding. He began designing and building snowboards in 1995 for Kingpin Snowboards, and by 1996 worked at Globe Snowboards as sales and marketing manager and production manager. In 1997 he launched Garage Industries and Custom Craft Snowboards, a true custom snowboard company. Today he rides a Wagner Custom 159cm powder board and a 153cm groomer/pipe board, both with a 31.7cm nose and 9m radius. When not building or riding snowboards, Marty can usually be found teaching his infant daughter to skateboard.

Jason Laflamme, VP Operations

A perfectionist New Englander, Jason grew up skiing in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. He had a family tradition of both skiing and precise woodworking: His grandfather Fred Nachbaur was a veteran of the 10th Mountain Division and a pioneer ski instructor, and his father was a professional cabinetmaker. Expressing his compulsion for precision and order, Jason graduated from Cornell in 1993 with a degree in mathematics. He brought his passion for technical climbing, alpinism and cycling to Telluride some 14 years ago. Jason runs Wagner Custom's Placerville operations with the precision and attention to detail of a Swiss watch factory.
